Update
The latest fatal accident on Heathcote Road occurred just 400 metres from a fixed speed camera site.
The camera was installed on the eastern side of the Woronora River Bridge in 2017 after the accident in which off-duty firefighter Drew Cullen was killed in 2016.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the latest crash in which two cars collided head-on about 11pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) said the crash location was around 500 metres west of the Princes Highway intersection, just below Forum Drive.
This is outside the recently upgraded intersection area.
A police spokesman said the driver who died at the scene had been formally identified, but at this stage his name had not been released
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was in a Mazda 2 travelling west, while the other car, an Audi Q3, was heading east.

A man was killed in a head-on collision between two cars on Heathcote Road, near Princes Highway, Heathcote, overnight.
The accident, which occurred about 11pm on Sunday, involved a Mazda 2 travelling west and an Audi Q3 travelling east.
The male driver of the Mazda, believed to be aged 40, died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the Audi, a man, 38, was uninjured and taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory testing.
Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The overnight fatality adds to Heathcote Road's tragic history.
Many motorists have lost their life on the undivided road.
On January 31 this year, probationary police officer Timothy Proctor was fatally injured near New Illawarra Road when another car veered across double lines.
The woman driver of the other car also died in hospital.
In April this year, a man died when the car he was driving caught fire in a collision with a cement truck near Sandy Point.
In 2016, off-duty firefighter Drew Cullen was killed when his car was hit by a truck on the narrow Woronora River Bridge.
In 2018, the state government promised to spend $173 million upgrading Heathcote Road.
Only $4 million was allocated in the 2018 state budget for work on the Woronora River Bridge and approaches at Engadine, with $7.6 million towards duplicating the road between Voyager Point and Hammondville.
In April this year, Roads and Maritime Services completed a separate project - upgrading the intersections of Heathcote Road and Princes Highway and New Illawarra Road.
