While renowned for his various TV spots, Cronulla's Beau Ryan says it's been a long-time goal to host a program.
The former rugby league star gets his chance to do that with the return of globe-trotting reality program The Amazing Race Australia after several years' absence.
Ryan said he didn't hesitate when The Amazing Race Australia hosting gig landed on his radar.
"You get pitched a lot of shows and you get a lot of options come up, especially when you change networks, and being young and enthusiastic I had quite a few options," he said.
"But when this was thrown up, I just knew straight away, 'this is me, this suits me', and I told them, 'I'm the guy'."
Prankster Ryan's previous television credits include a roving reporter role on Chris And Julia's Sunday Night Takeaway for Network 10 and regular appearances on The Footy Show on Channel Nine.
Ryan brings his trademark energy to the hosting duties of this round-the-world race, as 11 teams of two traverse roadblocks, meltdowns, jetlag and more.
They'll tackle trains, planes and camels as they ping-pong across the world in pursuit of the $250,000 cash prize.
"People think you've got to be fit and tough and all this, but I like the fact that anyone can be in it, and anyone can win it, and that's what happened with us," Ryan said.
Ryan said the highlight of the five weeks of filming was travelling to Asia and Africa.
"I'd never been to Africa, and it was fantastic," he said.
"It was brutal - the conditions to film and compete - but it was great.
"We were fatigued by the time we got to Africa. We were hungry, but we were conditioned by the time we got there, and it just suited the race perfectly."
Ryan said The Amazing Race Australia wasn't "heavily produced" ala other reality programs, where contestants are constantly "poked, prodded and sleep deprived" into behaving a particular way on camera.
He said this enabled the contestants' real personalities to be showcased.
"They are sleep deprived (on this show), but at the end of the day it's true colours coming out," he said.
"It's hard - it's a tough show.
"If you want to get divorced, it's great," he joked. "If you're going through a rough part of your marriage and you want to end it, go and do the Race."
- The Amazing Race Australia premieres on WIN on Monday at 8.30pm.
