Joggers, walkers and cyclists have received a pleasant surprise with the full reopening of the southern gateway to the old Como rail bridge a month ahead of schedule.
The path was due to be closed on weekdays until the end of November, but the barriers were removed this week while work continues on completing the work.
An upgrade of the path includes new retaining walls, signage and resurfacing .
A Sutherland Shire Council spokeswoman said the upgrade was "nearly complete, well ahead of schedule".
"However, there are still several tasks including handrail installation, signage and bush-regeneration works to be done," she said.
"The barriers were removed in order to complete sections of the upgrade, and while people may use the path while these final works are being carried out, we still require cyclists to dismount as they pass the site and ask the public to keep safety in mind if they choose to use the path while the finishing touches are being completed."
