The last time Sydney FC played at Kogarah was their incredible 6-1 semi-final thrashing of Melbourne Victory that would help springboard the Sky Blues to their record fourth A-League championship.
But Milos Ninkovic says the memory of that drubbing will count for little on Sunday night.
Sydney FC return to Netstrata Jubilee Stadium for the first of 10 home games at the venue this season. The historic Kogarah ground will be the club's major home as redevelopment works continue at Moore Park's Allianz Stadium.
And the visitors on Sunday will again be the struggling Victory, who have won just one of their opening five games.
Ninkovic was a star of that 6-1 thrashing, scoring Sydney's final goal to complete the rout.
But as huge as that result was in May, the former Serbia international told the Leader it would be insignificant this weekend.
"It doesn't mean anything for me," he said.
"Absolutley, it's in the past. That was four or five months ago. This one is going to be different.
"That game was one of my favourite games since I've been here in Sydney. But it's in the past and we only want to concentrate on this game.
"It was unbelievable. [But] now they have a new team, new coach. We have some new players. It's going to be a very interesting game."
The 34-year-old, a former winner of the Johnny Warren and Alex Tobin medals, has played in some huge matches in his career in Europe for Red Star Belgrade and Dynamo Kyiv. Ninkovic also represented Serbia at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where he played against Australia.
The midfielder said it was important for Sydney, fresh from a week off thanks to a bye, to earn another three points against Victory to continue their solid start to the season.
"It's always nice to play big games. Every player wants to play derbies and big games in front of big crowds. Games against Victory have always been special for everyone. They are very tough games. They are enjoyable to play and I'm looking forward to [Sunday]," Ninkovic said.
"I think we've played very well so far. I think against Western Sydney was probably the best of our games since I've been here. I've played in so many great games but probably that was one of the best except for the result.
"So far I think we've played very well. We showed very good performances, maybe against Wellington was not like we want. But after that I think every game we've been very good.
"Before the season started I said we have to try to win every game because we have a good squad. The last couple of weeks we've shown we can play very well. It's important to win and keep winning because it makes it much easier to maintain a good atmosphere and keep everyone happy."
Another strong crowd is expected at Kogarah on Sunday with the A-League Big Blue to be played as a double header alongside the W-League clash between the sides.
And while Ninkovic has played in some of the best stadiums European football has to offer, he is also a fan of Jubilee where Sydney FC enjoyed plenty of success last season - something he wants to replicate again this campaign.
"To be honest Allianz is my favourite stadium. I have so many good memories there. But Kogarah is a really nice stadium. I have good memories there as well from last season, especially against Victory. It's a good stadium. I expect it to be full and a good crowd which is always nice to play in front of," he said.
"I've said so many times when you play for Sydney FC the only goal every year is to win. It doesn't matter how many players we've lost, new players we sign, the goal is always the same. To win trophies."
