A severe fire danger rating is in place for the Sydney region on Friday.
While conditions eased following a "catastrophic" danger rating earlier in the week, the forecast of hot, dry weather once again poses a threat today.
NSW Rural Fire Service Sutherland Shire advises a Total Fire Ban is in force.
"The temperature will reach 32 degrees, humidity in the mid-teens, with westerly winds averaging 20km/h, gusting to 30km/h. Our coastal communities such as Bundeena and Kurnell will be much milder, with the sea breeze and westerly influence intersecting with each other. A cool and gusty southerly change is due through this evening. Report all fires to Triple Zero and keep up to date via the Fires Near Me 'app'."
Commissioner of NSW Rural Fire Service Shane Fitzsimmons warned conditions would likely worsen this afternoon.
"It's going to be another very difficult day for people from the Hawkesbury right up to the mid-north coast, right up to the fires burning on the Queensland border," Mr Fitzsimmons said.
"Unfortunately these strong winds, up to 60, 75km/h across the ranges, are really going to cause challenges."
Total fire bans will be in place in Sydney, Far North Coast, North Coast, Hunter, Central rangers, New England and Illawarra/Shoalhaven and northern slope
