When things become too frantic in Kimberley Miles' busy life she escapes to the kitchen and starts baking.
A self-taught baker, Kimberley, 46, of Monterey has learned to bake by trial and error.
Now she is ready to show her skills to the world when she appears on series two of Zumbo's Just Desserts on the Seven Network this Sunday.
Kimberley has always loved baking.
She knew her grandfather, Len Pitt was a chef but she only recently discovered that he was a pastry chef.
"Maybe it's in the blood but I have taught myself," Kimberley said.
She recently resigned from her job as corporate insurance broker to concentrate on her home baking business, the littlethings.
"I do very detailed cakes," she said.
"I recently did a Dumbledore cake from Harry Potter which took eight-hours to make. I do novelty cakes of all sorts as well as kids cakes, doggie birthday cakes and gluten-free cakes.
Her biggest fan is her seven-year-old son, Lucas.
"Lucas was born 27 weeks premature. I was on a plane on the way to Townsville when I went into labour. Now he's about to turn eight."
Kimberley said that baking has helped her cope with her busy life as a single-mum.
"Baking is very calming. I'm really high energy, so it calms me down," she said.
Kimberley said when she was accepted to appear on Zumbo's Just Desserts she didn't really have experience in that area.
"I don't really make desserts. I had to retrain myself to learn desserts. It's a different art to cakes.
"I'm just a passionate baker who was self-taught. I didn't have time to train professionally. I had to teach myself."
She said it was a surprise when she was accepted to appear on the show.
"There were over 100,000 applicants so it's a real honour," she said.
"The experience was amazing. All the contestants have become really close."
But Kimberley said that there is really only one person who she needs to impress with her skills in the kitchen.
"I would like to show Lucas that as a single mum I could do it, and that when he grows older he could really appreciate that with hard work you can do anything," she said.
