A double to Remy Siemsen saw Sydney FC start their 2019-20 W-League campaign in style on Sunday, with the Sky Blues downing Melbourne Victory 3-0.
Sydney FC were by far the better side as they returned to Kogarah for the first time since their grand final win at the end of last season. The W-League Big Blue was played as a double header alongside the A-League clash between the clubs.
Siemsen, who returned to Sydney FC after a season with Western Sydney, needed less than four minutes back in sky blue to give her side the lead.
The 20-year-old did brilliantly to find space in Melbourne's penalty area, with Matildas forward Caitlin Foord rolling a tidy pass into Siemsen's feet.
Siemsen then danced around Matildas defender Teigen Allen before planting a left foot strike past Victory goalkeeper Casey Dumont into the bottom left-hand corner.
All of a sudden Victory trailed 2-0 after 22 minutes, with Siemsen adding a second goal.
Sydney controlled much of the game, thanks to captain and St George junior Teresa Polias and Matildas midfielder Chloe Logarzo in the middle of the park, but it wasn't until added time at the end of the second half that they would add a third goal.
Substitute Shadeene Evans popped up to head home an Angelique Hristodoulou cross just six minutes after coming onto the field, with the Young Matildas star delighted with her first W-League goal.
The 3-0 victory gave Sydney FC an early advantage as the club's played for the Beyond Blue Cup, with the aggregate scores of the W-League and A-League clashes to decide the winners.
The Sky Blues are on the road next week in round two, taking on Adelaide United.
Sydney FC return to Kogarah for their round seven W-League clash, taking on the Reds on December 29.
