First lady Jenny Morrison was undoubtedly the belle of the ball when more than 380 people gathered to raise funds for charities and community groups in Sutherland Shire and St George.
A record $61,000 was raised at the 2019 Sylvania BMW and Rotary Caringbah Cook Community Classic Gala Ball, held at Doltone House, Sylvania Waters.
The proceeds from raffles and live and silent auctions will assist participating charities such as Kookaburra Kids, local Scout and Guide groups, the four Bate Bay surf clubs, Mito Foundation and other community groups.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison started the classic in 2008 to support local community groups.
Despite the national responsibilities he has since taken on, his enthusiasm for the event has never waned.
However, according to some who were present, most eyes at the Doltone House event were on Mrs Morrison, whose simple but elegant fashion choice has been a focus of media attention both in Australia and on overseas visits with her husband.
The gala ball is held every two years as part of IMB Bank Cook Community Classic fundraising activities and so far has raised more than $325,000.
The $61,000 raised this year is the highest amount to date and takes the total funds raised so far for the classic to more than $1.2 million.
Guests at this year's ball were entertained by comedian Vince Sorrenti and tenor Mark Vincent, who again donated his time to this event.
Mr Morrison thanked supporters of the classic, in particular the four Bate Bay Surf clubs who have been involved from the outset.
Mr Morrison said principal sponsor IMB Bank had backed the classic for 12 years.
"To Sylvania BMW and Rotary Caringbah, thanks again for sponsoring this great event," he said.
"I extend a special thank you this year to Sydney Airport, sponsoring a new addition to the classic: the Paper Plane Take Off Challenge."
Mr Morrison said it was the idea of Rotary Caringbah in 2009 to incorporate a gala ball into the classic.
"I am pleased to see not only do they continue to sponsor the event but they also come with their team of volunteers to ensure the night is a great success," he said.
"The gala ball is a great opportunity for local community groups to increase awareness of their organisation and raise vital funds.
"More importantly it is a great opportunity for our local community to come together and celebrate the wonderful volunteers working tirelessly to make where we live even better."
The community carnival will be held on December 1 at Dunningham Park and North Cronulla beach.
