RE the article "Toyota site to be placed on market: Council opposed to residential" (Leader, November 13). We asked readers what they would like to see at the site.
It needs to be industrial as there is a massive fall in industrial employment in the shire and massive increase in industrial rents and ownership due to no industrial buildings available. You can't sustain future employment in the shire with just retail or education.
Rodney Heseltine
Definitely not more apartments! Make it a huge playground with bike track, skate park, basketball courts, exercise equipment and walking track.
Tara Moran
If I win Lotto this week, I'd love to open up a massive dog training facility there. Obedience agility indoor outdoor space and maybe even a dog hydro pool. We have none close. So many dogs in Cronulla and so many I see are anxious and pulling owners everywhere. This would be my dream to help all the dogs.
Michelle Jean
Parkland would be nice, to provide some green space to make up for some of the backyards gardens that have been concreted over in recent years. Somewhere for children and adults to play and relax.
Megan Dortkamp
Theme park and water park, create jobs and fun for everyone.
Danny Knobel
University, beautiful park lands for everyone to enjoy. No more residential.
Kass Dempsey-Bertram
It's time for a good sized private school in our area.
Michelle Letton
No more units! Please!! I agree with others ... parkland. Make up for brickpit, Shark Park, Greenhills and the horror overdevelopment in Cronulla.
Jacque Maree
Hopefully, to be rezoned for retail, restaurants and more shops to service our beautiful shire. No more unit blocks please.
Gail Constantinou-Alexandrou
A recreational park with bike tracks.
Alison Douglas
A school a hospital and a police station (including funding for adequate staff ) to cater for the million of units going up all over the shire. The council should be held accountable for the developers providing this infrastructure before they sign off on the deal.
Dianna Mackay
Something for the whole community like a university for jobs and education incorporating perhaps a theatre for performances and a bike track connected to the existing bike track for use on weekends.
Kathy Thorsby
I think to say "Sutherland Shire Council is strongly opposed to it becoming a residential development" is just spin. The developers have too much power. Residential development there must be strongly opposed. The area can't take any more.
Eric Mooyman
Definitely No more units. Uni campus, new school, TAFE campus - something to provide greater education opportunities for the shire.
Naomi Bryant
A TAFE for building trades. So we can educate more young Australians in practical education. The shire is full of tradesman. Yet some courses for building at TAFE are very limited in Sydney. When my son did bricklaying he did it at Granville. I think it was the only TAFE in Sydney that had the course. We need to train the new generations the trades and not import tradesman from overseas.
