Glenn McGrath has been honoured as the third recipient of The Waratah at the NSW Champions of Sport Ceremony at The Star in Sydney on Monday night.
Sutherland cricket legend McGrath, who had Caringbah Oval renamed in his honour in 2008, was acknowledged with the award which recognises an individual's leadership in sport, their passion for NSW sport and their desire to achieve broader community outcomes.
The previous two winners had been rugby league and netball legends Laurie Daley and Liz Ellis.
Meanwhile, shire residents John Holt and Bradley Clyde were inducted into the NSW Hall of Champions.
Sylvania Waters resident Clyde was widely acknowledged as the best lock forward in rugby league. He played 21 Tests for Australia, 214 premiership games and 14 State of Origin matches between 1988 and 2000.
Clyde played 11 seasons with the Canberra Raiders, featuring in three grand finals. He was named among rugby league's 100 greatest players, in the NSW Country team of the century, a 1990s team of the decade and chosen as one of the 25 greatest players for NSW.
Cronulla Surf Lifesaving Club's Holt dominated surf lifesaving's Iron Man competition in the 1970s.
In a 10-year career, Holt competed in 123 Iron Man races scoring 95 wins, 11 second and eight third places.
Holt was an outstanding competitor in all surf disciplines winning more than 100 championship medals in surf, board, Iron Man and R and R. He represented Australia four times at World Championships, winning three gold medals and a bronze.
"The quality of our category finalists was a credit to sport at all levels in NSW. Each of our winners have excelled with sustained performances over the past 12 months and are a credit to their sports," Sport NSW chairperson, Carolyn Campbell, said.
Australia cricket star Ellyse Perry and para-triathlete Lauren Parker were named the athlete and athlete with a disability of the year respectively.
Acting NSW Minister for Sport, Geoff Lee, paid tribute to the performances of Perry and Parker over the last 12 months.
"Ellyse and Lauren were outstanding at a domestic and international level and their fearless pursuit of victory is just one of the reasons they are rated the best in the world at their sports," he said.
"Performing at the highest level takes extreme dedication but it is the example you set to those around you that is what really stands out. Ellyse and Lauren will continue to inspire young women dreaming of becoming the best in the world."
Former Australian Test cricket captain Richie Benaud was also officially recognised as a Legend of NSW Sport at the dinner.
