RE the article "Rescuer damns child rapist to a 'life of pain'" (Leader, November 13).
What should be looked at is the conduct of police, in the lead up to this brutal attack on this innocent young girl, who were informed by the female victims of Sampieri's phone calls, stalking and terrorising (91 mentioned in the article).
They were attending the police station for assistance fearful of this dangerous criminal ... and the police continued to turn them away and did nothing.
This enabled Sampieri to remain free in the community to continue this psychopathic behaviour of targeting women and children.
They withheld information that Sampieri was on parole for rape - they were negligent in their duty to protect. Take that in for a moment.
This is a heinous crime on a beautiful little girl with her whole life ahead of her. It could and should have been prevented if police had done their job with the information and evidence they were provide with in addition to what they already knew.

I read this and cried and cried. Bring back Capital Punishment. Anyone who touches a child does not deserve to live.

This still affects me and I don't know the little girl. I can't imagine what a lasting impact it has on all involved. I really hope the people involved get the help they deserve to move forward. I hope the little girl and her family can also find strength.

Life, never to be released. We have to start protecting our children and send a clear message.

Bugs me so much ... everytime I walk past this building I just cringe and get so upset ... what a horrible human.
