Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene is encouraging the community to help local children and families in need this festive season by donating Christmas gifts at a council collection point.
The council will share donated gifts with The Salvation Army, who help thousands of Australian families in need through their annual Christmas appeal, for distribution to families in the local area.
Mayor Greene said the council will have Gift Giving Trees at the Georges River Civic Centre, as well as Hurstville and Kogarah Libraries and Service Centres.
Gift donations will also be accepted at South Hurstville, Penshurst and Oatley Libraries.
"For many of us, Christmas is a time of celebration with family and friends," Councillor Greene said.
"However, this is not the case for every family. As we reflect on many families' experience of
this festive season, I call on our community to spread Christmas cheer by donating to those less fortunate within our community," he said.
"Unwrapped and unused children's gifts and supermarket gift vouchers will be received at the specified locations between Tuesday 26 November and Friday 20 December 2019, after which these gifts will be provided to The Salvation Army to distribute to local families in need.
"The Salvation Army is grateful for the support of the community to assist those battling tough times this Christmas," Councillor Greene said.
