Young gun Britney Pierce is relishing her time in the Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series and was thrilled to return to her home state of NSW on Sunday for round three of the five-event series at Bulli.
The first Wanda athlete to represent the club in the series since the legendary Stacey Gartrell, Pierce is one of the up and comers within the IronWoman ranks.
The 20-year-old said she was enjoying her time in the series and the different formats each week have provided plenty of challenges.
"That round was definitely a hard round to do with a lot of sprints. Straight after I had to go for an extra long cool down to make sure the arms and body pulled up okay," Pierce said.
Despite finishing towards the bottom of the field last weekend, the Wanda product still has her sights set on cracking a top 10 finish before the end of the series.
"I was excited that we are back to the shorter style of racing, the first two rounds were endurance style," she said.
"The next round (round four) will be interesting. It's the specialists individual races and then going into the final iron. It's going to be a bit different again which will be good."
As one of only four NSW-based IronWomen in the Nutri-Grain Series, Pierce is 15th on the ladder.
She hopes to round out the series with a good result when it returns to NSW in 2020 for the final at North Cronulla Beach on January 19.
The next stop for the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series will be Surfers Paradise on December 15.
An unstoppable Lana Rogers took out the third round. The result solidified the 23-year old from Noosa Heads at the top of the leader board and she remains undefeated with two rounds remaining.
Super Surf Teams League
Meanwhile, Bate Bay surf athletes also competed in the Super Surf Teams League which is a new surf carnival style competition featuring three rounds of intense surf sport team events.
Thirteen teams and more than 110 athletes from around Australia will compete in the inaugural 2019 season as curtain raisers for rounds three to five of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.
Comprising of four male and four female athletes, Super Surf Teams will compete in ski, swim, board and beach events, as well as the mixed team ocean lifesaver relay.
The Queensland Country Canecutters dominated the first round of the inaugural event at Bulli with a 23-point lead ahead of the Scarborough Sunsets.
Australian beach champion and another former Cronulla competitor Bree Masters took the points for the South Coast Makos in the female beach sprint and flags, taking out North Cronulla's Alex Rampoldi who was competing for the Sydney City Sharks.
Millimetres defined the women's board race as a wave from the cans carried all 13 women to shore but it was Wanda's Sydney City Shark Elyssa Pierce who crossed the line first in a sprint finish.
NSW's Hunter Central Coast Orcas and NSW Sydney City Sharks were head-to-head the entire length of the male board race, with Elouera's Chris King from the Sharks edging out NSW Orca's Nick Stoddart.
