The 13th annual Jane McGrath Classic fun run was held on Saturday at Don Lucas Reserve, Greenhills Beach.
The race switched from the previous traditional all-sand run from Wanda to Boat Harbour to a new format in a cross country course along the top of the Wanda service trail.
The race was founded in 2007 in honour of Jane McGrath and Helen Campbell as a way to support them and other women like them who were battling breast cancer.
With Jane's daughter Holly once again firing the famous pink McGrath starting pistol, the three-kilometre distance still tested the athletes climbing a number of hills and running on different surfaces.
Defending champion Ali Najim from Jock Athletic's team once again blew away the field leading from start to finish with Marcus Keyes in second and Cronulla Triathlon Club junior Toby Hummerston third.
In the women's race, the surprise winner was the pocket rocket 12-year-old Sari McKee who took it out early with Najem and held off two fast challengers Emma Blanch and Sienna Alderson with just over 30 seconds separating the top three women.
The rest of the field enjoyed the challenging course and many prizes on offer from the sponsors Jon Brookes Real Estate, Pheasant Wood Circuit, Blackmores running festival and GU energy gels.
More than $1000 was raised for the McGrath Foundation.
