Sutherland will look to press on and chase victory against Sydney with Daniel Fallins closing in on a century for the Sharks when play resumes on Saturday.

Sutherland are 9-299 at Drummoyne Oval after day one of their two-day, round seven fixture on Saturday.

NSW Sheffield Shield spinner Fallins remains 78 not out with Tom Doyle (71) the only other Sharks player to pass 50 as a number of Sutherland batsmen failed to convert strong starts.

At Waverley Oval, St George are in trouble in their match against Eastern Suburbs.

Saints were bowled out for 208 on day one on Saturday, with captain Nick Stapleton (47) and opener Blake Nikitaras (42) the best with the bat.

Adam Whatley (34) added late runs to push St George past 200 before they were bundled out.

Easts are 2-40 in reply, with Stapleton and Peter Francis picking up a wicket each.

Play resumes at 10.30am on Saturday.
