After a big launch week of the new Southern Swell exhibition at Hazelhurst Arts Centre,Gymea the regional gallery is holding a big Surf Fest day on Sunday December 8 to help celebrate surfing culture in Southern Sydney.
Surf Fest will bring together activities to coincide with the hugely popular exhibition, Southern Swell which looks at surfing culture from the 1950s to now.
People can enjoy musical performances by King Tide and rapper Slippery Surfa, a dozen mini markets offering surfing related items including jewellery, textiles and retro items, free family friendly activities including making your own sea creature, or making a wave, face painting, photo booth, screening of surfing film Bustin' Down the Door which features the rise of professional surfing in the 1970s, vintage cars and food stalls.
Visitors can also take a guided tour of Southern Swell, listen to guest speaker talks in the Regional Gallery including Women in Surf ,surfboard manufacturer Stuart Patterson ,journalists Graham Cassidy and Graeme Cole and see the installation of a collaborative surfing painting led by artist and surfer Henry 'Jock' Walker, as well as join his talk in the residence studio.
