Girl Guides volunteer Julie Hayes received the Cook Medal at the annual Cook Community Awards held on Saturday, December 7 at Wanda Surf Life Saving Club.
The Prime Minister and Member for Cook, Scott Morrison MP hosted the awards which provide an opportunity to recognise the people who give up their time to selflessly contribute and serve the local community.
Mr Morrison established the awards in his electorate 12 years ago to "celebrate quiet and selfless achievers in our community", and an award ceremony is held at the end of each year.
Volunteers who devote countless hours from a wide cross section of the community were honored from Woodworkers to Girl Guides, surf and boardriding clubs, rugby, junior league and netball associations to Lions Clubs, church groups and many more.
Mr Morrison said this year they were overwhelmed by nominations - each and every one worthy of recognition.
"I was delighted to congratulate Julie Hayes as our 2019 Cook Community Medal winner for her involvement with the Miranda District Girl Guides," Mr Morrison said.
"Julie has been volunteering for the Girl Guides since 2000, providing both mentoring and leadership to girl guides and to fellow adult leaders.
"She is an outstanding example of the Guiding principles of service, respect, optimism, courage and strength.
"Julie is always filled with an optimistic view of the world, giving her all for a group of young girls who can take inspiration from the strength and courage she exhibits every day."
