Around 200 people attended the Save Carss Park Pool Rally yesterday.
The focus of the rally was to express their outrage at a six to seven year process for building a new Georges River Regional Aquatic Centre.
Details released by Georges River Council this month show that construction of a new pool will not be completed until 2025.
And details of its possible location are unknown.
Save Carss Park Pool supporters said that this will cause a generation of schoolkids miss out on the chance to learn to swim at their local pool.
The rally was addressed by Kogarah MP Chris Minns and Rockdale MP Steve Kamper.
"The purpose of the meeting is to reaffirm that we want this pool rebuilt at its current location," Mr Minns said.
"We now believe Georges River council is on a different track. Their plan is to build a pool at a different location seven years from now."
"That means a generation of kids will not have the opportunity to learn to swim at Carss Park Pool, and potentially may never learn to swim.
"This pool can be rebuilt at its current location at a reasonable cost and with a minimal drain on Council's reserves."
Mr Kamper said, "This is a swimming precinct with a long history. This is a swimming community.
"But Georges River Council is choosing to close this pool down after so many years, with no real plan for the future.
"We have to continue to fight to shame the Council into rebuilding Carss Park Pool. "
The pool was closed in July due to structural failure.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised $5 million towards to rebuiding of the pool but only if this is at its current site.
Mr Minns has proposed a five-step plan that will ensure residents can get access to a new swimming pool as quickly as possible.
This includes a staged development so that a working and safe public pool is built first.
"That way people can get back to swimming as soon as possible," Mr Minns said
