Residents received two big item Christmas presents when Georges River Council officially opened the new Kempt Field Adventure Playground at Kempt Field, Hurstville and the new Harold Fraser Oval Clubhouse at Kogarah Bay last week.
Georges River Council mayor Kevin Greene said that the new infrastructure will help to enhance the lifestyle in the Georges River area and build on high quality projects already delivered in 2019, including the Oatley Park Inclusive Adventure Playground and Peakhurst Park Synthetic Field.
"I am delighted to open two significant new community assets which will provide even more opportunity for residents of all ages to enjoy an active lifestyle in the Georges River area," Councillor Greene said.
"The Kempt Field Adventure Playground comprises Phase One of Council's Kempt Field Plan of Management, which will see the park undergo a $6 million transformation.
"The $1.5 million adventure playground has been designed to accommodate all abilities with a number of great features including a flying fox, a children's bike training track, nature based play areas and climbing structures.
"It also features shade sails, picnic and barbeque facilities with table settings and shelters, toddler play areas, swings and basket swings and an all-access amenities block.
"Harold Fraser Oval has also undergone a significant transformation, including a new amenities block with change rooms, referees room, canteen, medical room and an accessible bathroom.
"The 2.4 million works included the creation of an upstairs function area, which is accessible via a lift, and will provide a great new option for local events with a kitchenette and toilets.
"The opening of this fantastic new community infrastructure is timely as we enter the school holidays season, and I have no doubt that they will be extremely well utilised across the summer months and beyond," Cr Greene said.
Funding for the upgrades at Kempt Field Adventure Playground and bike training circuit has been supplied by the Federal Government. Works at the Harold Fraser Oval Clubhouse were made possible with funding from Georges River Council and the NSW Government, as part of its Stronger Communities initiative.
