The Carve Pro will land at Maroubra Beach this month to kick start the 2020 Australian World Surf League Qualifying Series leg.
The elite four-day QS 1000-rated event will form the first of three stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series and will take place Maroubra January 29 to February 1.
Last year's event was won by Cronulla's Connor O'Leary and set up his qualification for the elite World Tour this year.
Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden said the event would continue to serve as inspiration for the next generation of Sydney surfers.
"The calibre of surfing at the Carve Pro has always been incredibly high and the local surfers who have competed over the years have always been met with a giant amount of fanfare," Madden said.
"Locals like Monty Tait, Blake Thornton, Max McGuigan and Jackson Giles have all laid the foundation for Maroubra surfers like Koda Killorn, Tye Koolis, Jake Feher and Mateus Bersot to be able to compete and we think a lot of that strength has come off the back of this event."
Carve director Matt Whyte said he was blown away by the growth of the event since its inception as a Pro Junior event in 2014.
"Our upcoming Carve Pro QS1000 will be our seventh World Surfing League event held at Maroubra Beach," Whyte said.
"Back in 2014 Carve launched our first ever Pro Junior event which was a huge success. We backed that event up again in 2015. Carve then made a large investment in taking our Pro Junior event to a QS1000 in 2016.
"Our upcoming event in January will be our fifth Carve Pro QS1000. Carve is all about supporting our local surfing communities and creating a pathway for young surfers to fulfill their dreams of one day becoming a professional surfer."
The Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series was developed for Australian and international surfers to gain ranking points and prize money on the WSL Qualifying Series. The series also creates a NSW coastal road trip for all to explore the variety of waves, visit local communities and enjoy NSW surfing culture.
Meanwhile, it was a big surfing season at Sandshoes for the Reef that Rules' and the 2019 competition program - overseen by contest director Guy Turner - was one of the best on record, with competitors across the three major categories - masters, juniors, open - turning on the fireworks.
The first three in the open event were Matty Cook (first), second place Luca Durante and third place Luke Wedesweiler.
The big three performers in the juniors were Zai Brown, Joel Cornock, and Alec Durante.
The winners in the masters were Chris Durante, Brett Daintry and Guy Turner.
The highest-placed under-13 category surfer was Joel Cornock and the Inspirational Award went to Evie Fischer.
The John Murray Inspirational Award went to Robin Moore, the Ron Inman Memorial Award was taken out by Jazmyn Turner and the New Life Member award went to John Bonello.
The Sandshoes club applauded Carol Gillespie for her great work across the year managing the club's financials and commended Karan Murray for her continued and very special financial support.
