The Illawarra Catholic Club, which operates as Club Central at Hurstville and Menai, has appointed its first female vice president.
Margaret Starks, who was elected to the board in 2018, has taken on the more demanding role after retiring from a career in the finance and insurance industries spanning 40 years.
Her wide-ranging experience includes core insurance disciplines, business analysis, project management, customer service and service delivery management.
Ms Starks is also a strong supporter of grassroots sport, and was honoured with life membership of Kingsgrove Cricket Club in recognition of her contribution to fundraising and building club culture and identity.
Club Central president Brian Cloney welcomed Ms Starks to her new role and the increased diversity it brought to the club.
Ms Starks replaces Brian Roberts who stepped down as vice president due to ill health. Mr Roberts will continue as a director.
"I thank Brian for his service as vice president and wish him good health outcomes over the coming months," Mr Cloney said.
Ms Starks said she looked forward to "getting to know more members, to be a voice for them and serve them with enthusiasm and commitment".
"One of the most attractive things about belonging to Club Central is the personal, family feel that we manage to maintain even though we have over 55,000 members."
