Cronulla Triathlon Club will host the 34th annual Richie Walker Aquathlon on February 8.
Junior and senior athletes from across NSW will take to the picturesque Gunnamatta Bay course to battle for the ITU Youth and Junior Aquathlon Championships and the TriNSW Aquathlon Championship.
Walker was a promising triathlete and lifeguard who died suddenly from a heart attack while competing in a triathlon in Tamworth in 1986.
The club has continued to honour Walker's legacy with the hotly-contested event that has featured world champions including Chris McCormack, Michellie Jones, Craig Alexander and Peter Robertson.
A new generation of local professional athletes have returned to the shire to take on the event in recent years. Emma Jeffcoat has been among the winners while Nathan Breen has won four of the last five races.
All proceeds from the race are donated to The Heart Foundation, with all interested athletes welcome to compete.
The first junior events start at 9am with the senior races to start at 9.55am.
Registration is available online.
