PIZZA FOR ALL: The record attempt is being held to celebrate the opening of Pellegrini's at South Village shopping centre in Kirrawee.

You can enjoy a slice of what may be Australia's longest pizza when the chefs of Pellegrini's restaurant attempt to set a new record on Sunday, January 19.

Kiln Road in South Village, Kirrawee will be closed off from 10am-noon to allow the 100 metre pizza to be created.

Once complete, shoppers and local residents will be invited to enjoy a slice of the monster margherita crowned with crispy fresh basil leaves and the finest extra virgin olive oil.

A time-honoured favourite, the original margherita was created to honour Queen Margherita of Savoy and garnished with tomatoes (red), mozzarella (white) and basil (green) to represent the national colours of Italy.

The event will also mark the launch of the Annual Sydney Pizza Village Festival where Australia's best pizza makers and celebrity pizza chefs from around the globe will come together to demonstrate their skills and show why pizza is the world's favourite food.

Pierre Moio of Pellegrini's Italian Restaurant in South Village, Kirrawee says his chefs first introduced diners to the one metre long pizza in 2009.

Served on timber boards the pizzas also come in two and three metre lengths, making them ideal for groups and parties.

Mr Moio said Pellegrini's menu was quintessentially Italian in an Australian context.

"Here you will find classic Italian dishes with a twist, served just the way mama likes it, in abundance," he said.

"Portions are generous and the food is flavoursome, so enjoy homemade pastas and sauce, steaks, ribs, burgers, meat skewers, seafood and woodfired pizzas.

"At Pellegrini's you're sure to find something on the menu for everyone, including classics like spaghetti meatballs, pollo boscaiola, fettucine carbonara and traditional zuppa di pesce (mixed seafood stew cooked in Napoli sauce).

"The menu is almost as long as the piping hot woodfired pizzas.

"Then there's our never-ending selection of desserts, including our famous cheesecake.

"Using a traditional Mediterranean recipe, Pellegrini's have recreated Australia's favourite dessert in a whopping 30 cheesecake flavours.

"From the classic original cheesecake to a fan favourite, the Oreo cookie cheesecake, to the crowd-pleasing red velvet cheesecake, there is a flavour for everyone."
