Artist Chris Yee will create a colourful mural in the Hurstville Interchange Open Air Gallery Park as part of the Lunar New Year festival this Saturday, January 18.
Chris Yee is a Sydney-based artist and a proud member of the evolving Asian-Australian creative identity and strongly believes there is a unique character and original narrative found within this changing community.
Meanwhile, Hurstville Museum and Gallery is providing a public art family trail, available to collect from the Georges River Council stall.
The trail takes participants to the Museum and Gallery via Hurstville Plaza, completing tasks along the way with four stops in total.
Those taking part in the family trail can explore the public art of Hurstville, discovering murals by artists Chris Yee and Mulga.
A prize of a Lunar New Year badge can be collected at the Museum and Gallery by those who complete the trail.
The trail is aimed at families with children, but can be completed by all ages and is available in English and Chinese.
Kogarah Library is hosting a Lion Dance and Martial Arts Demonstration to celebrate Lunar New Year.
Guests will be able to enjoy a colourful Lion Dance weaving through the library foyer followed by an impressive demonstration of Chinese Martial Arts performed by the Da Hong Kung Fu Club.
This will be held at the Kogarah Library and Service Centre on Wednesday, 5 February at 4pm to 5pm.
Hurstville Library and Service Centre will host a Chinese Paper Lantern Making Class on Saturday, February 8 from 1pm to 3pm.
Participants can learn to make their own lantern to celebrate Lunar New Year and decorate it with traditional Characters which symbolise peace, luck and happiness.
They will learn the secret of paper cutting and assemble a lantern frame with yarn.
