Georges River Council's annual Australia Day Festival at Carss Bush Park on Sunday 26 January 2020 is primed to be a hit with the Georges River community and beyond.
The event will commence with a Welcome to Country at 2pm followed by a Citizenship Ceremony and the announcement of Council's Australia Day Award winners.
Entertainment will start from 3.30pm with a mix of live music, cultural performances, children's activities and market stallholders.
Georges River Council Kevin Greene said that the Australia Day Festival had attracted large crowds for over 25 years, with the 2020 event predicted to be just as popular.
"10,000 people attended the Australia Day Festival in 2019 and we anticipate that 2020 will be just as big, with some fantastic entertainers in the program and plenty of activities to keep the kids having fun until well after the sun goes down," Councillor Greene said.
"The event's headline act is the legendary Australian musician and winner of the Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2016 ARIA Awards, Russell Morris, who after an incredible career continues to inspire musicians worldwide.
"The Weeklies made up of both customers and staff from Disability Services Australia will also take to the stage, and are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Children will be able to meet the Bananas in Pyjamas, as well as enjoy inflatable obstacle courses.
"We recognise the significant role local events play in fostering community unity, and I encourage attendees to get to the event as early as possible, to make the most of the festivities," Cr Greene said.
The event will feature a wide range of food and market stalls, and community members will have the opportunity to soak up the festival atmosphere into the night, which will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over Kogarah Bay at 9pm.
This year, Council will present its Australia Day Awards to the: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Green Advocate of the Year, and an Arts and Cultural Award.
The Australia Day Festival 2020 is sponsored by Club Rivers (Event Supporter), Club Central Hurstville (Event Supporter), St George Sutherland Shire Leader (Media Partner) and Vision Times Media (Media Partner).
