A teenager has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a woman at Woolooware last night.

The 16-year-old boy was refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Wednesday).


A 16-year-old boy is still being questioned at Sutherland Police Station after a woman, 42, died from multiple stab wounds overnight.

The boy is reported to be the stepson of the victim.

One neighbour told reporters there were frequent bouts of screaming from the house on Kingsway, while others described the family as "quiet".


A teenager was arrested in a Woolooware home where a woman was fatally stabbed, receiving multiple wounds to her back.

Police said, about 1.30am on Wednesday, emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing at a home on Kingsway in Woolooware.

Officers attached to Sutherland Police Area Command attended and located a 42-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds to her back.

She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

She died shortly after.

A 16-year old male was arrested at the scene and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

A crime scene has been established and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death has commenced.
