Bayside Council has postponed its Lunar New Year event at Central Park, Mascot this Saturday due to health fears from with the coronavirus.
The decision was made in consultation with the Lunar New Year event's sponsors and performers.
"This decision reflects current community health concerns," according to a statement issued by the council.
"Bayside Council cannot guarantee the event would be well-attended if it was to proceed next week," Bayside Council mayor Joe Awada said.
"We are in unprecedented times with 2020 starting in a way that has not been previously experienced.
"Our Lunar New Year event is a celebration and one of the most important events on our calendar, however it is just not the right time for us to proceed.
"I remain confident that everyone will be able to attend the rescheduled event in the future."
A new date for the Event will be announced as soon as possible.
