Following on from its inaugural success in 2019, Shire Shred is returning to Wanda Beach Cronulla on Sunday April 5 during Youth Week.
Shire Shred is a free all-inclusive community Youth Surf Festival for participants of all levels and abilities,it was developed in partnership between Cronulla Surfing Academy (CSA), headspace Miranda and Sutherland Shire Council.
The idea surfaced when CSA were campaigning to raise money for headspace Miranda and awareness of youth mental health in the Shire and headspace Miranda wanted to put some of this money back into the community to celebrate with the local youth.
Shire Shred has lots of amazing ideas for 2020 and is encouraging other local businesses to come on board to help make this event happen bigger and brighter than last year.
With over 1000 people in attendance in 2019, a company's involvement will provide great exposure for any local businesses- sponsorship doesn't have to be money it can also be goods or services, big or small.
The event includes a youth surfing competition hosted by Cronulla Surfing Academy and Surfing NSW, learn to surf classes, a skateboarding zone with half pipe and mini ramps, beach yoga, live music, beach games, surfboard art demonstrations, food trucks, face painting, beach wheelchairs and a beach mobility mat.
Shire Shred provided 100 young people with the opportunity to participate in free surf classes, 60 competitor's positions in the competition and prize bags for all surfers from the sponsors including Havaianas, Ocean & Earth and Quiksilver.
Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in the country and it provides them with the opportunity to take part in events, share their ideas, showcase their talents, be heard, and contribute to their community.
