Gymea Miranda Bowling and Sports Club (Gymea Bowls) has received approval to build a large, covered outdoor dining terrace at a cost of more than half a million dollars.
The new, 115 square metre terrace will be north-facing with views to the city.
It will provide additional dining and a function area, accommodating up to 70 patrons.
There are already small terraces on the northern and eastern sides of the club.
Sutherland Shire Council approved the development application (DA) for the project, which has a construction cost of $557,000.
Club chief executive Keith Langelaar said on the club's website, "We are hoping to commence construction of the terrace on the northern side of the club house in March 2020, and all going well to be completed in July 2020, weather permitting".
"When completed, we will have an additional under cover, non smoking dining area in which members and guests will be able to relax with a cold beer or bottle of wine and enjoy the great views of the city skyline, Georges River and the airport lights."
Approved operating hours are Monday to Thursday and public holidays 11am to 10pm; Friday and Saturday 11am to 11pm; and Sunday 10am to 9pm.
The DA said, while the improvements were expected to create an additional parking demand of eight car parking spaces, the existing parking areas were considered to be capable of accommodating the projected additional demand.
"At-grade parking with a total of 67 parking spaces is currently provided at the parking area of the bowling club," the DA said.
"Furthermore, the bowling club is provided with reciprocal rights of car parking on the adjoining Tradies Club parking area, which provides 40 spaces in the at-grade parking area adjoining the bowling club parking area and 418 spaces in the multi-storey parking area respectively."
Two formal objections were received from nearby residents when the DA was advertised.
Both submissions said the proposal would add to existing loud noise coming from the club.
"As highlighted in previous correspondence to the council, we have found the Gymea Bowling Club to be particularly noisy neighbours," one submission said.
The submission said there was "a regular occurrence of rowdy patrons on the northern terrace deck" and the music and PA systems often operated outside the permitted hours".
