The community is being asked their views on future uses of Seymour Shaw Park at Miranda.
Sutherland Shire Council is conducting a survey following a resolution late last year to investigate the feasibility of adding a skate park as part of a new active sports precinct.
A council staff report is due to be handed down in April on potential other uses for the park where soccer, netball, tennis and cricket are already played.
Councillor Jack Boyd, who initiated the move to include a skate park and other action sports facilities, "strongly encouraged" members of the public to visit the council's website and complete the survey.
"There has been strong support for the proposal to date, but it essential that the community formally register their support to help the project proceed," he said.
Cr Boyd suggested last year, apart from a skate park, the precinct could include facilities such as an outdoor basketball court, parkour zone and climbing walls.
It would also be a place where young people could just "hang out".
Cr Boyd suggested the precinct be located in the south-western corner of the park, near the playground and tennis courts.
Cr Boyd said state government funding was available to support such facilities and he believed the cost to the council could be just $500,000.
The council's survey says: "Seymour Shaw Park is a key recreational area in Miranda and Council is looking at ways to improve how the space is used and provide better opportunities for recreation.
"These improvements will be aimed at supporting active lifestyles now and into the future.
"Existing facilities at Seymour Shaw Park cater for a range of sporting and recreational activities, including netball, soccer, tennis, cricket and a children's playground.
"We want our open space to accommodate our community now and as it grows and changes, a key outcome in council's Open Space & Recreation Strategy.
"To assist Council to plan for improvements and ensure they meet the needs of residents in the centre of Sutherland Shire, council is seeking initial feedback from the community."
Feedback can be submitted online or by writing to Asset Services, Sutherland Shire Council, Locked Bag 17, Sutherland 1499.
The council said further consultation would be carried out with the community as concept plans and any proposed improvements were developed.
