Australian Parents For Climate Action will hold a 'play-in' outside the Cronulla electorate office of Cook MP and Prime Minister Scott Morrison this Friday to advocate for urgent action on climate change.
The 'play-in', which organisers describe as similar to a sit-in, is open to children, parents and grandparents and aims to demonstrate the urgent need for strong action on climate change.
Organisers plan to hand in a letter to Mr Morrison's office outlining their concerns about inaction over climate change and which calls on him to support the Climate Change Bill 2020.
"We are organising this play-in because we need to inform our Prime Minister that, as parents, we are deeply concerned about Australia's continued inaction on climate change," said one of the organiser's Kate Fitzgerald.
"It's no longer about protecting our children's future, it's now about protecting their present."
Australian Parents For Climate Action say children are more vulnerable to the health impacts of climatic change, including longer, hotter heatwaves, hazardous air quality, and increased asthma and allergies from bushfires and storm events.
"Now is the time for our politicians to come together and vote with their communities to end Australia's climate policy impasse," said fellow organiser Melissa Buncarass.
"We encourage all parents who are worried about their children's future to let their local federal member know they support strong action on climate change before March 23."
Australian Parents for Climate Action was formed in January 2019 and has attracted more than 6000 members who want to provide a safe climate future for their children.
The 'play-in' will be held this Friday, March 13, from 11am-noon at 30 Kingsway, Cronulla.
The group is calling on the community to show their support for the bill by signing an online petition. For more information click here
