The office of Federal Member for Barton, Linda Burney is now a collection point for donations of non-perishable food items for distribution to local relief organisations.
"Many people have shared with me their shock at some customer's recent buying patterns and expressed their concerns for those members of our community who are not able to afford to buy a few extra items or get to the shops early enough to purchase their essentials," Ms Burney said.
"This is why my office is now collecting donations of these items for distribution by local relief organisations," she said.
"If you can spare some canned food items, pasta, cereal, rice and paper goods, please drop them off to my office at 203/13A Montgomery Street, Kogarah during business hours.
"We will make sure your donations get to the organisations helping those in our community who are doing it tough.
"To protect the health of community members making donations as well as my staff, I ask that donations be left in the reception area of my office for collection by my staff.
"If any member of the community is not able to drop off their donation to my office, please call my staff on 9587 1555 to make alternative arrangements," Ms Burney said.
"These are challenging times that require us to look out for each other and lend a hand where necessary."
