The 55-year-old St George Sailing Club building at Sans Souci will be just a memory, with demolition works well advanced.
The building and other structures will be replaced by a modern, single level club with surrounding decks, jetty and pontoon, along with a separate single-storey boat shed.
Founded in 1897, St George Sailing Club was originally located further along the Georges River, but was relocated eastward to make way for the construction of Captain Cook Bridge, which opened in 1965.
The club closed on August 20, 2019 and is due to reopen by the end of 2020, with a focus on good food and promoting junior sailing.
For a sample of what is to come with the redeveloped club, members were invited to visit the Manly 16ft Skiff Club, with which St George Sailing Club amalgamated in 2010.
In 2015, Manly skiffs underwent an extensive renovation that saw them improve in all areas of trading, especially in dining.
