The Georges River Local Strategic Planning Statement 2040 (Georges River LSPS 2040) has received a letter of support from the Greater Sydney Commission.
Georges River LSPS 2040 will guide land use planning and the delivery of significant infrastructure for the Local Government Area (LGA) over the next 20 years.
Mayor Kevin Greene said the LSPS 2040 creates a land use vision for the future that recognises the character of our suburbs and builds on the Georges River Community's social, environmental and economic values and strengths.
"This is a significant milestone and something Council staff should be commended for, as Georges River Council was in the first tranche of councils to receive this letter of support from the Greater Sydney Commission," Councillor Greene said.
"Georges River LSPS 2040 was informed by a comprehensive engagement program with the community, Councillors, State Government and other potential collaboration partners.
"The program included over 900 community members participating in workshops, drop-ins and pop-up events, with 743 surveys completed on Housing and Centres.
"We received 136 submissions in the public exhibition period, and almost 8,000 visits to the LSPS 2040 website.
"The LSPS 2040 takes the messaging from the engagement and sets out an ideal character for the LGA and a roadmap to deliver the community's vision into the future.
"The document contains over 100 actions to guide Council's work on the ground and the preparation of other Council plans and policies," Cr Greene said.
The first key Council plan to set out revised land use planning in accordance with the LSPS 2040 will be the Georges River LEP 2020. The draft Georges River LEP 2020 will be shortly exhibited with the community once again encouraged to have their say.
