The Esplanade between Cronulla and North Cronulla beaches will be closed on Sunday if social distancing regulations are not followed.
Sutherland Shire mayor Carmelo Pesce said on Sunday morning council public safety officers were monitoring the situation.
"Because of the nice weather today, there are a lot of people out early walking on the Esplanade.
"If the numbers build up and people don't apply the social distancing rules, we will act swiftly," he said.
"Barricades have been delivered down there, ready for use of they are needed."
Cr Pesce said the situation along the beaches on Saturday was generally very good, although the numbers were not large because the weather did not come until the afternoon.
"Ninety per cent of people are doing the right thing, but our lifeguards did have to move some people along," he said.
"Most people are very accepting once the reasons are explained to them."
