While many service organisations have had to curtail their activities as a result of restrictions to fight the coronavirus pandemic, some are still going out of their way to help the community.
One such organisation is Lugarno Lions Club.
One of its members, Elvio Munzone has volunteered in some capacity for more than 30 years and it was going to take more than a pandemic to stop him helping others.
"Whist the current situation has had a significant impact on how volunteers and community service organisations operate, kindness matters now more than ever," he said.
"Lions Clubs create miracles every day through our service [and] it's been wonderful to see our clubs adapting to these difficult times.
"From virtual meetings and fundraising to assisting those more vulnerable members of the community, Lions continue to work together to support each other and those in need."
Each Easter, Lugarno Lions Club delivers chocolates to nursing homes residents. While they could not greet them in person this year, they still delivered more than 500 chocolates to four local nursing homes along with an Easter message.
Another recent project saw the club donate a great selection of children's books, including educational books, that had been bound for landfill, to a charity, CaringKids.
Meanwhile, Mr Munzone's wife Gae, who is also a member of Lugarno Lions Club, and other volunteers recently spent hundreds of hours stitching beautiful bags with a koala design to raise money for Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary, which was destroyed in the recent bushfires.
"There are so many ways Lions volunteers are continuing to make a difference in this challenging time," Mr Munzone said, adding that with many clubs still meeting remotely, now was as good a time as any to join a Lions Club.
