An online wellness festival bringing together more than 50 local practitioners will start tomorrow.
The inaugural Shire Wellbeing Festival will run Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, and features specialised content from health and well-being educators, professionals and businesses.
Organisers say the free event aims to help residents become educated, inspired and empowered about their own well-being.
Festival highlights include educational summits on various topics, including an interactive 'Gut Summit' featuring health and research experts from University of NSW's Microbiome Research Centre at St George Hospital.
The world-class research centre studies the microbiota in health and disease.
An 'Energy Summit' featuring a number of health professionals will share simple ways to optimise energy and increase vitality.
A 'Community & Connection Summit' will showcase local activities that directly support the community, including Community Co-op Sutherland Shire, a collaborative food relief program; Waves of Wellness, a mental health and surf therapy charity promoting positive mental health; Home Instead PenPal Program, which invites people to send messages to seniors who are currently isolated; Kookaburra Kids Foundation, which supports children who live in families experiencing mental illness; and Nerang Road Community Garden in North Cronulla, which invites neighbours to learn about gardening and growing organic produce.
The festival will also feature plenty of activities, including sunrise meditations, daily yoga classes, virtual gym workouts, skills workshops and cooking classes.
There will be daily interviews with well-known residents, including long-distance swimmer Susie Maroney, who will discuss mindset and resilience, as well as entertainment, with Golden Guitar winner Luke O'Shea among who will perform.
The Shire Wellbeing Festival will be available online via Facebook, Facebook Live, Instagram and Zoom.
