Development applications for building works within the Georges River local government area will need to be lodged online from June 15.
The move to online is to meet NSW Government requirements for applications to be lodged via its Planning Portal.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene acknowledged that this is a significant change, as Council staff will no longer be able to accept hard copy applications over the counter.
"The requirement from NSW Government is that all development applications be lodged via the Planning Portal from 1 July 2020, however we are moving to the new system slightly earlier in mid-June to ensure the interface between our systems are operating smoothly by the official 1 July date," Councillor Greene said.
"The change means that people will need to register via the Planning Portal, and then lodge their application and associated documents there.
"We will continue to provide our pre-lodgement service, which offers customers helpful advice on their application prior to lodgement.
"Additionally, Council is acutely aware that not all applicants have internet access at home, and therefore we will provide access via kiosks located within the Hurstville Civic Centre customer service area.
"It's important that people understand council does not administer the portal - it is administered by the NSW Government, so any issues will need to be resolved through them," Cr Greene said.
