Garrigarrang Early Education and Care Centre, the new child care centre owned and managed by Bayside Council, is expected to open in early 2021.
"Families can now get onto the waiting list for this state-of-the-art centre which will provide a much needed service for the local community," Bayside Mayor Joe Awada said.
The centre is being built on the former Darrell Lea site in Kogarah.
The Garrigarrang Early Education and Care Centre will employ 13 staff cater for 66 children - . 31 aged from 0 to 3, and 35 aged from 4 to 5.
Fees range from $119 to $125 depending on the child's age.
The Centre is expected to open early next year and Bayside Council is now inviting residents to put their child's name on the waiting list.
The waiting list will open on Wednesday, June 17.
Residents who want to get on the waiting list should complete the waiting list form at https://haveyoursay.bayside.nsw.gov.au/garrigarrang
Enrolments should be finalised by the end of the year and an open day will be held to show prospective new parents the site.
Garrigarrang or 'sea country' is the Aboriginal name that was unanimously agreed on by Bayside Councillors at the first meeting for 2020.
Located at 2 Garrigarrang Avenue and overlooking Scarborough Park the Centre has been funded by a Voluntary Planning Agreement between Council and JQZ Nine Pty Ltd following the rezoning of the land from industrial to residential.
Bayside Council has a long history of operating child care centres and owns and manages two other centres in Mascot and Hillsdale as well as running a Family Day Scheme and an Out of School Hours Service.
