A new after-hours GP service has opened in Kogarah that is free for children under 16.
The St George GP After Hours Service is located in the Kogarah medical precinct and offers a team of GPs who are available to see people after work or at weekends.
During COVID-19, many parents have been concerned about taking their children to emergency wards within hospitals because they fear contracting the virus.
Within the grounds of St George Hospital, there is an 'after- hours' GP service that is free for children and well set up with specific adaptations to ensure safety for parents and their children.
Local working mother-of-three three, Vanessa said she is reassured that there is the option of a GP service that means out of hours she won't be waiting on a long queue to see a doctor.
"It's a great idea to have the option of an after-hours GP service at St George hospital that's free for kids," Vanessa said.
"It means we don't need to go into a potentially crowded emergency room, and that's important, especially now."
The GP service has produced flyers that have been sent to Pharmacies in the St George area to alert parents of the service that is free to all children, as well as concession card holders and people financially affected by COVID-19.
The practice has been adapted according to government safety guidelines so patients can feel safe to come in and see a GP in-person. Telehealth may also be available.
The St George GP After-hours Service is open Monday to Friday from 7pm to 10pm and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 1pm to 5pm.
It is located at 1 South Street, Kogarah. Phone 9553 0795.
