Advance Diversity Services and Riverwood Community Centre have both been successful in obtaining funding through Multicultural NSW's COVID-19 Community Support Grant.
Both organisations will receive $5,000 to provide immediate crisis support and hardship assistance to members of the local community.
Advance Diversity Service will be using their funding to provide food and transport vouchers to at-risk clients and will also assist in paying for medical bills and essential clothing items.
The grant funding for Riverwood Community Centre will be used to assist the Punchbowl Community Food Support Program which provides healthy and culturally appropriate food to those in need.
"Strong communities support each other through challenges and the NSW Government is doing just that, supporting the community when it is needed most,"Oatley MP Mark Coure said.
"This funding will help those on-the-ground grassroots organisations to provide basic necessities like food, transport and language support for vulnerable people."
"Advance Diversity Services and Riverwood Community Centre have both told me that the number of people requesting assistance has increased rapidly since March making this funding even more critical."
Geoff Lee, Acting Minister for Multiculturalism, said the funding will provide much needed support.
"The COVID-19 pandemic and measures to control its spread have presented significant challenges to our multicultural communities," Mr Lee said.
"The NSW Government understands this and is determined to support communities to provide basic necessities to the people who need it the most."
