The Sutherland Shire Football Association has applauded the decision by FIFA that Australia and New Zealand will host the 2023 Women's World Cup following last weeks historic announcement.
The SSFA has also released their competition schedule for all ages and grades for 2020 in a welcome return to community sport.
The delayed season will commence this weekend and will entail thirteen weekends of games with no capacity to make up matches.
The season will be completed on the weekend of Saturday 26/ Sunday, September 27.- It hasn't been confirmed whether a Finals Series is possible.
SSFA committee member Laura Cowell was appointed as the areas #getonside2023 community bid champion and it was her job to help spread the word and gather support from the local clubs.
"Women's football is experiencing a time with unprecedented growth in its popularity, public profile, commercial interest and participation," Cowell said
"Here at Sutherland Shire Football, we will try and encourage some of the countries teams to base themselves here and help promote the development of women's football."
Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge said hosting such a big spectacle involving our women's game is a dream come true for the sport, country, state, players, participants and fans alike.
"The FIFA Women's World Cup is the pinnacle for any female footballer to play and we look forward to welcoming the best teams from across the globe, along with our own Matilda's.
"Hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup will provide us all with a great opportunity to accelerate the growth of women's football and increase investment into football facilities, particularly those that are female-friendly."
Hodge acknowledged the incredible work of Football Federation Australia and the support of the Australian Football Community that led to a successful bid.
Hodge also paid tribute to the Federal and NSW Governments for their leading role in achieving this amazing result for the sport.
Over 65,000 females are registered to play football with clubs across NSW.
