The Australian Air League Riverwood Squadron is resuming Friday Night Parade nights this Friday, July 3 and they are inviting new members to join them.
The squadron is well-known for its many appearances at community events including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services.
They are also known internationally.
Last year, the Australian Air League Riverwood Hornets Marching Band, consisting of 40 members, participated in the the 78th Anniversary Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on December 7.
They were the first Australian Band to ever have performed in the annual parade which commemorates the bombing of Pearl Harbour by Japanese forces.
During the COVID lockdown, the squadron has been conducting its meetings via Zoom and its class work has been via Google Classroom.
"We are looking forward to coming back to face-to-face parade nights although still with some restrictions," the Squadron's Officer Commanding, Chris Bailey said..
"We hope to keep our members eager to learn and progress through our program of Theory and Practical courses relating to aviation and general subjects including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for members 14 years and over," he said.
"Our International and Australian award winning band for all members and flight simulators to enhance some of our theory courses.
"We also develop leadership skills and qualities in our members. We should not forget our Physical activities and Community service.
"The Squadron has become well-known in this and neighbouring communities for supporting community festivals near and far.
"We work closely with the Lugarno Lions Club, Oatley Lions Club, Hurstville Rotary Club, Federal and State MPs as well as local councillors as well as other organizations.
"We look to these activities to promote in our cadets the idea of being good citizens that take part in the community."
The Squadron's books are now open to accept new members inviting boys from the age of eight-years along with their parent's to contact Officer Commanding Chris Bailey on 0414 467 987 before coming to the Squadron hall on Friday, July 3 at 7pm.
