It's full steam ahead as the St George Model Boat Club returns to Scarborough Park this weekend after being in dry dock since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
And the club members are back with a special event, a flotilla of steam-powered scale-model boats.
The St George Model Boat Club had been sailing at the Barton Street ponds in Scarborough Park every Sunday for the past 30 years.
"But we had stop in March because of COVID restrictions, " St George Model Boat Club member, Rob Mulheron said.
"So we all went underground and worked on our models.
"We also drafted our COVID policy showing the council how we would act as a group in the park including social distancing.
"We submitted this to Bayside Council five weeks ago and they approved it, so we are back.
"We will be abiding by it because we have the eyes of the public on us."
The club has about 40 members who sail their models on the pond every Sunday from 9.30am to 1pm.
"We hold special events several times a year and this Sunday is our annual steam show," Mr Mulheron said.
"We can expect about 30 models on the day. There will be craft all with hand-made miniature steam boilers. People will be able to see a variety of steam-powered boats including paddlewheelers.
"Move over COVID, it's full steam ahead for St George Model Boat Club."
