Princes Highway at Kirrawee will be closed on Saturday night while the new footbridge at the Bath Road intersection is lifted into place.
Work will be carried out from 10pm Saturday August 8 to 6am Sunday August 9, weather permitting.
The highway will be closed in both directions between Oak Road and Kingsway. Detours will be in place.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Miranda MP Eleni Petinos said the new pedestrian bridge will be open to foot traffic by November.
Ms Petinos said the bridge would improve pedestrian safety and connectivity, and close the missing link in the walking network in the area.
"The Princes Highway is used by more than 75,000 motorists a day, and provides a link for pedestrian movements between residential and commercial areas," she said.
