Mortdale Public School and Oatley West Public School are set to receive new or additional crossing supervisors to help keep local school children safe as they return to the classroom.
This latest round of appointments is part of the Government's plan to fast track the appointment of 300 new school crossing supervisors within three years.
The NSW Government recently announced an extra 88 school crossing supervisors will be appointed in 80 schools across the state under its School Crossing Supervisor Program.
Mortdale Public School will now have a crossing supervisor at the pedestrian crossing on Railway Parade in addition to the existing crossing supervisor at Coleborne Avenue.
Oatley West Public School will now have supervisors stationed at the Oatley Park Avenue and Short Street crossings.
Oatley MP Mark Coure said that these crossing supervisors play an important role in keeping our children safe while travelling to and from school.
"School crossing supervisors are an integral part of local school communities, working hard to keep our children safe while travelling to and from school. They also help educate our children about road and pedestrian safety," Mr Coure said.
"The appointment of the 88 new supervisors has been made possible thanks to the Government's $18.5 million commitment to increase student safety around schools.
"I have worked tirelessly with the P&Cs, school principals and local school communities to deliver these much needed supervisors."
Nicolas Portois, president of Oatley West Public School P&C, said that this is a great outcome for the school community.
"Our school community, especially the P&C, has worked with Mark to look at ways of encouraging safer road use and increasing the number of students who walk to school," Mr Portois said.
"The two new crossing supervisors on Oatley Park Avenue and Short Street will improve pedestrian safety around the school and hopefully encourage more families to walk to and from school."
Recruitment for the new supervisor positions will open shortly, interested applicants are to check local jobs ads or visit https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/stayingsafe/schools/schoolcrossingsupervisorprogra m.html
