Sutherland Shire Council is calling on aspiring filmmakers to put their talents to the test as part of the 2020 ShireABILITY Film Competition.
The competition, now in its second year, is staged by Sutherland Shire Council in recognition and celebration of International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD).
It aims to showcase the many organisations, facilities and spaces available in Sutherland Shire that embrace being inclusive and celebrate people who live with a disability.
Entry is open to anybody but films must focus on ability and inclusion, and feature locations and/or people from Sutherland Shire as well as include at least one person, either cast or crew, with a disability.
There is no age restriction, but entrants under 18 must have permission of a parent or guardian.
Entry is free and is now open. Entries close 5pm on Friday, October 30, 2020.
Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce said the council was delighted to once again support the competition.
"I am thrilled that the council and a number of fantastic local organisations are once again getting behind this competition and can't wait to see some of the brilliant entries I know will start flooding in," councillor Pesce said.
"We received overwhelming support for last year's event, which unearthed some great local filmmaking talent that showcased inclusion and ability in the Sutherland Shire.
"The success of last year's event highlighted the importance of council's work in supporting local community members who live with a disability, as well as working with a host of fantastic community organisations that support them."
Films that make the finals will be screened on Sutherland Shire Council's Facebook page at 6.30pm on Friday, November 27, when the winners will be announced.
The lead winning entry will receive $2000 in prize money, with winners of four additional categories awarded $500. There will be one people's choice award, which includes $1000 prize money.
Council has partnered with Bus Stop Films and Shopfront Arts Co-Op to offer a practical online Filmmaking Tips and Tricks Session on Wednesday, August 12, from 6-8pm via Zoom.
