Cronulla's new exciting running forward Royce Hunt fronted the Media ahead of the Sharks Round 14 clash against the Titans this weekend.
Born in Kalgoorlie, WA, Hunt was picked up playing in the West Australian league as a 15 yr old, where his dad was driving him 6 hrs to play a game in Perth .Playing in an interstate match he was first spotted by the Bulldogs, and played in their youth team , eventually signing a contract with the Canberra raiders.
Hunt said he had a lot of ups and down and started to doubt himself but it was well-known recruitment manager Peter Mulholland who was his saving grace, sitting him down and signing him with the Mounties-Canberra's feeder team.
This year in round eight of the 2020 NRL season, Hunt scored his first try for Cronulla and his first in the top grade as the Sharks defeated the Gold Coast 40-10.
This weekend the Sharks meet the rejuvenated Gold Coast again at Kogarah's Netstrata Jubilee Oval and Hunt is looking forward to the clash.
"The team and all the boys have played a big part in how I've developed as a player " Hunt said
"My biggest strength is to just go out there and run, and that's what coach Morris ask me do-just run and focus on our defense "
Hunt said he is happy playing off the bench but if a starting opportunity comes he would take it with both hands.
Recently Hunt signed a two year extension on his Cronulla Sharks contract so his immediate playing future is sorted.
"Its pretty surreal, not even knowing if I would get a start-they gave me an opportunity -my wife and I are over the moon, were happy at the club and we love it here."
