The Dragons kept their slim finals hopes alive with a 28-24 win over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night to go to 12 competition points.
Interim coach Dean Young said there was a lot to like about the performance by his side but that they were still not the full package.
"It is the third time this year that we have competed for the full 80 minutes. One was last week against Parramatta, once was against Manly and tonight," he said.
Young revealed he had received advice from seven-time premiership-winning mentor Wayne Bennett ahead of his first game in charge against Brisbane.
Young, who took over the Dragons coaching reigns from Paul McGregor last week, played under Bennett in the club's 2010 premiership-winning team and remains in contact with the South Sydney coach.
Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Ryles, Paul Green, Todd Payten and Anthony Griffin are other names linked to the St George position, while there has been speculation that Bennett could work with Young as coaching director.
Winger Mikaele Ravalawa scored a double in the 28-24 win over the Broncos and became the Dragons' leading tryscorer for the season with 12 in the process.
It was the second double in consecutive weeks for the 22-year-old who notched the mark against the Eels the previous week in a 14-12 win.
Young said he is just scratching the surface of his full potential with the Fijian flyer still not aware of how good he can be.
Young said five-eighth Corey Norman also came up with some "big plays and some big kicks" from deep in Dragons territory in the second half which proved crucial against Brisbane.
Prop Paul Vaughan added drive off the bench after returning from his two-week break after breaking NRL biosecurity rules but his return may be short lived.
The prop has been charged with a crusher tackle on Brisbane's Richie Kennar, and is facing a two-match ban with an early guilty plea. He faces a possible three-game suspension if he pleads not guilty- but is found guilty.
The Warriors who have confirmed Nathan Brown will coach the club from 2021 has also announced the signing of Dragons centre Euan Aitken on a three-year deal.
The hard-running 25-year-old, who has scored 38 tries in 117 NRL appearances for St George Illawarra leads all NRL centres for run metres and post-contact metres this season, and ranks second behind the Roosters' Joseph Manu for tackle breaks.
With five rounds of the season remaining the 10th placed Dragons play the Gold Coast this Friday at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in an obviously 'must win' game.
The Red V play the Cowboys, Raiders and Newcastle Knights before finishing their tumultuous year with a blockbuster against the Melbourne Storm in round 20.
