Wednesday was International Dog Day, and at the Leader we celebrated our four-legged friends.
They're known as man's best friend, but canines can do so much more than just be a good companion.
Dogs help people through therapy, they assist police in solving crimes, they help blind people go about their day, and they help returned soldiers deal with stress.
Dogs are certainly pretty amazing animals.
We asked our readers to send in a story and photo of their beloved pooch and they did.
Here is my dog. Like me, he is a newshound.
Here is Charlie, he is one smart pooch according to his person Julie Takos Ioanides.
Kerrie Hollman says her dog loves to chill out on his deck.
Belinda Taylor says she loves her two furry family members. "We rescued them both as puppies," she said.
Nicole Wilson sent us this cute pic of Penny and Stanley.
Melissa Mullard sent us this pic of her four rescues Minnie, Skyla, Cora and Diesel. She says they give "the bestest big dog cuddles."
Kelly de Carle said she was so proud of her delightful puppy Molly the day she graduated from puppy school.
Leanne Davis Healy says Mojo and Rio are litter brothers, adopted as four month old pups from the RSPCA, who didn't recommend taking siblings together. "We're glad we got them both," she said. "They're now seven and a half years old. Here is a pic of Rio."
Margot Undercliffe says 'tiny' is 14.5 years old and rescued at two years. "She just loves her walks at Carss Park," she said.
Barbara Knezevic-Marinos sent us this pic of Lennie, 14 weeks. She says, "In the 10 years I've lived in my house I haven't met as many nice neighbours as I have in the weeks he's been with us. He tries to get attention and a pat from every human that he sees. Every walk is better with him."
We wonder if Sally Groat loves guitarist Eric Clapton? Here is a pic of her Blue Merle Border Collie 'Layla' who loves all the great places to walk in the Shire.
Jeannelle Aranda says her pooch has had too much play so she snapped this pic at nap time.
Leanne Davis Healy said her pair of pooches love napping in the warm sun and refuse to lay down together for her to only take one shot. This is her dog Mojo.
Ellen Storey sent us this pic of her sun worshipper, Maggie. She is a six years old Saluki x Golden Retriever mix originally adopted in Dubai after being found as a lost puppy in the desert. Ellen brought Maggie home to Australia almost 12 months ago. "She has loved every minute of Australian life," she says.
